Tornado Relief
Update March 20 2:35 pm

Friends, we have just received notice that New Covenant Christian Church is closing down their disaster-relief center and their hot meals program as of today.

This morning, you received a listserv inviting you to prepare food and gather materials for us to send to NCCC on Sunday. THAT IS NO LONGER APPLICABLE. Thank you for your willingness to participate, if you signed up online already. We will find other ways to participate in ongoing tornado relief.

Shifting quickly on the fly (and trying to get comfortable with that reality),

Amy

Update March 20

Our friends at New Covenant Christian Church continue to serve as a disaster relief center for people in North Nashville who were affected by the tornado. Here are two ways we can support them this week:

~Provide a hot meal for about 60 people on Sunday.
The menu is divided so each dish is roughly the equivalent of a dish or two you might bring to a church dinner — enough for about 20 people.
It would be most helpful if you sign up today so we can be sure to have enough food.
Someone will pick up food from your porch on Sunday morning and deliver it to New Covenant.
You will find additional information in the SignUpGenus link.

~Donate supplies for the distribution center.
Current needs are peanut butter, packaged ready-to-eat meats like chicken and tuna, cleaning supplies, and laundry detergent.
You can drive through the church parking lot Sunday between noon and 2 to deliver these items. Someone will come to your car to get them.

With much gratitude for all the ways you support each other and our community,
April, on behalf of the Leadership Council and Church Staff

Update March 13

Rev. Dr. Judy Cummings of New Covenant Christian Church (Disciples), one of our partner congregations in North Nashville, has warmly welcomed Glendale's participation in recovery and relief efforts. Today she notes that there are certain supplies that are getting low. If you would like to drop off any of these items, you may leave them on the pew in the foyer. You can also bring them on Sunday.

Laundry Detergent, Dishwashing liquid, Bleach, mops, brooms, first aid supplies, body wash, toilet paper, paper towels kleenex, fruit cups, pre-made packages of tuna, chicken salad.
Please, No Blankets, Clothes, Water, Rakes or shovels, we have plenty.

We have a strong network of people in that community and contacts with churches there that are providing support for their neighbors in myriad ways. One of the best ways folks outside Nashville can support the people affected by the tornado is through donations of money that we can use to buy supplies for clean up and restoration and provide support to residents. We will be glad to be the clearinghouse for those donations. Our Venmo address is @GlendaleBaptist. Checks can be made out to Glendale Baptist Church with "Tornado Relief" in the memo line. The mailing address is 1021 Glendale Lane, Nashville, TN, 37204. All money donated here will go directly to relief efforts and support for people affected.

Gideon’s Army does tremendous work, particularly in North Nashville. Your support here will directly support families and people in need now.

North Nashville will not be the pics you see on the news, or where the bulk of the help with go (because structural and institutional racism). And lots of the folks who were hit there won’t have the same set of safety nets (insurance, savings, lines of credit, etc.).
